Dr. G. Wayne Clough, P.E., Dist.M.ASCE, 67, took over as the top executive of one of the world’s preeminent museums and research centers on July 1, 2008. Widely recognized for his teaching and research, Dr. Clough has had a career of academic achievement, public policy experience, and accomplishments in management, science, and public service. Prior to his Smithsonian appointment, he had been president of the Georgia Institute of Technology. His research interests include geotechnical engineering, earthquakes, and soil structure.

In this debut discussion, Dr. Clough talks about civil engineering innovation, the need to invest in research & development, and the opportunities and challenges of operating in a global competitive economic environment.
